  • Avokia Selected to Present at DEMO 2006

TORONTO, ONTARIO - Jan. 23, 2006 - Avokia Inc., whose software makes fast 24/7 business a reality for businesses and customers by enabling the continuous availability of database information today, announced it has secured a second round of venture funding, led by Globespan Capital Partners, of $7.4 million. SAP Ventures, a division of SAP AG, also participated in the round which included original investors Ventures West and BDC Venture Capital. The company also announced it will demonstrate its technology at the prestigious DEMO Conference taking place February 6-8 in Phoenix, Arizona.

"We see tremendous opportunities for Avokia's products in the market," said Dave Fachetti, Managing Director, Globespan Capital Partners. "Large companies today succeed or fail on the effectiveness of their business applications. Avokia's ability to ensure those applications are always available and always fast is greatly needed in today's marketplace."

Avokia met all of Globespan's investment criteria, including experienced management, a large market opportunity, superior and innovative technologies, the ability to become market leaders, and a unique and sustainable business model, according to Fachetti.

Avokia is the only provider of patented database middleware software that ensures the continuous availability of business applications at the highest level of performance. Its products are designed for high volume enterprise applications where speed is critical and downtime is not an option.

"SAP Ventures is deeply committed to technologies that enable companies to derive maximum business value from their enterprise applications," said Jennifer Scholze, investment manager, SAP Ventures. "Continuous availability of databases as delivered by Avokia is crucial to this."

"This investment validates that we are well beyond the proof-of-concept phase and well into successful market development," said Alan McMillan CEO of Avokia. "With these additional resources, we are expanding our sales and marketing efforts across North America, reaching new vertical sectors and adding to our team."

Avokia was hand-selected from hundreds of emerging technology companies to appear at DEMO 2006.
