Ventures West Expands Biotech Investment Team
Toronto, ON, August 10, 2004 - Ventures West, one of Canada’s largest privately owned venture capital companies, has announced that Dr. Maha Katabi has joined the firm as Vice President. Dr. Katabi will focus on deal generation and portfolio management in the Biotech sector, particularly for early stage companies in Ontario and Quebec. She will split her time between the Ventures West Toronto office and the newly established office in Montreal. "We are particularly fortunate to have Dr. Katabi joining our team. She is well known to the biotech and venture capital industries in Quebec and is uniquely qualified to attract and evaluate quality biotech investment opportunities.," says Nancy Harrison, Senior Vice President of Ventures West and one of the most experienced biotech investors in Canada. Prior to joining Ventures West, Dr. Katabi was Vice President Business Development of Chronogen Inc., a drug discovery company developing human therapeutics to treat age-dependent diseases. Prior to joining Chronogen, she was responsible for managing investments in the life sciences field with T2C2/Bio, a prominent Quebec biotechnology venture fund. While at T2C2/Bio, she worked closely with Chronogen as well as several other portfolio companies to develop their technologies and position them for commercialization. Dr. Katabi holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from McGill University. The addition of Dr. Katabi rounds out the Ventures West’s Biotech team with representation in both east and west metropolitan centres.
