Paul Kedrosky Joins Kauffman Foundation as Senior Fellow

  • Noted Entrepreneur, Venture Capitalist, and Academic to Develop Innovative Programs to Advance Entrepreneurship and Innovation
KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today announced that Paul Kedrosky, Ph.D., has joined the Foundation as a senior fellow. In this capacity, he will use his experience as a technology entrepreneur, venture capitalist and academic to explore new programming opportunities for Kauffman in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, and capital markets.

Most recently, Kedrosky has been the Executive Director of the William J. von Liebig Center in San Diego, California. Using an innovative seed capital program, the Center catalyzes the commercialization of technologies from the internationally ranked University of California, San Diego.

He is a venture partner with Ventures West, Canada's largest institutional venture capital firm, where his interests include consumer technologies, media, semiconductors and life sciences. He is currently on the board of Marqui Corporation, a marketing automation software firm, as well as Dabble DB, a hosted data management company.

Kedrosky is also a sought-after speaker, an analyst for CNBC television, a columnist for TheStreet/RealMoney, and the author of one of the most popular business blogs. He is frequently quoted in major publications around the world.

“Paul Kedrosky is widely recognized for his technology expertise, his business acumen and his real-world understanding of the forces that make our economy tick,” said Carl Schramm, the Kauffman Foundation’s president and CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the Foundation, where his expertise and unconventional thinking will contribute to our efforts to advance entrepreneurship, innovation and economic growth.”

Earlier in his career, Kedrosky founded the technology equity research practice at HSBC James Capel. As a highly ranked technology equity analyst, transactions with which he was involved created in excess of a billion dollars in public market value. Kedrosky was one of the first analysts to cover many major technology and Internet companies, as well as making early and timely calls in networking and communications.

He has also been a successful entrepreneur. In 1999, he financed and launched one of the first hosted blogging services, GrokSoup. The service grew to more than a thousand subscribers. Relatedly, he wrote for Harvard Business Review what is widely regarded as the seminal article on dark matter and syndication technologies.

Kedrosky has hosted a television program, "Profiles on Innovation," that is available on cable in the United States, as well as on the Web. He has written influential columns for Business 2.0 magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist, among others. He has also appeared on many broadcast programs, including CNN, PBS Newshour, ABC Nightline, and CNBC Television.
